I have a fully rebuilt 3 cyl with suprf1y econo head package & 10* timing gear my tranny is a 4.39 gear ratio. My question is should I put a XFI 3.85 ratio that I found for 100.00 or a 3.52 tranny for 300.00? Will the 3.52 pay for its self in mpg? The car won't see much for interstate driving mostly hwy 60 to 65 mph.

Any feed back on this would be greatly appreciated!

A very good thing to consider!
assuming with the 4.39 you get 50mpg and $4/gal you pay $4/50=8 cents/mi.
say the 3.85 saves you 13% (3.85/4.39) AT BEST. your cost is 7 cents/mi.
say the 3.52 saves you 20% (3.52/4.39) AT BEST. your cost is 6.5 cents/mi.

the 3.85 saves 1c/mi and costs $100 so in $100/.01per mile = 10,000 mi you break even and start to actually be ahead. in 10,000 more mi you are ahead $100.

the 3.52 saves 1.5c/mi and costs $300 so in $300/.015per mile = 20,000 mi you break even and start to actually be ahead. in 6,667 more mi you are ahead $100.

The 3.52 is cheaper in the long run, beyond 40k. Will you drive it that far? Again these are AT BEST savings. You may get less. If gas hits $8 then the miles are cut in half. :D

Thanks for the response xrw44! I just got back from picking up the 3.52 tranny I was able to get him down 100.00 & it supposedly has 56000 miles on it & 60 day warrenty. The other salvage yard could not tell me how many miles & no warrenty. So after finding out that stuff it was kind of a no brainer!
