It would not ruin your back pressure and should not affect your gas mileage if you don't have an O2 sensor down stream of the Cat. You don't list your year and make car. My '91 has one O2 sensor, now located between the header and Cat. and I have an flow through Catco Cat. and glass pack so my back pressure is reduced greatly but it doesn't lack for power and I still got 52 average mpg on vacation with the Wife and stuff. If you have two O2 sensors and they read the same current the CEL will come on. The question will be passing emissions if a Cat. is required in Mn.

I rode in a members stock GT Sunday and it was FASTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.
No Cat.
He said the Cat made it noticeably slower.
But does your car have to pass emissions testing?
