2000 1.0L, 5sp, 110k miles. I installed an XFi cam (measured and confirmed) with the 2000 cam sprocket, and a tranny from a 1.3L (3.92~3.96?, its been a while). Stock exhaust, intake opened up a bit with TB bridge removed. Also running 175/65/14's. I usually get low 40's mpg with this set-up.

I know the wider tires lose mpg but I was hoping for near 50mpg. Do I need an XFi ECU? I never thought so, but doesn't hurt to ask.

you can buy an economy grind camshaft that gives more torque and will maybe give you 50mpg levels. i would suspect low mpgs like that could be vacuum or compression loss. how is your hg at idle and what's your engine compression levels ?

An Xfi computer will not work in your OBD II car. They were all OBD I. My car is only getting 42 mpg right now but will get 50-51 come summertime. :)

I sold this car to a friend at work. I now have a Saturn L which is an Opel Vectra B.

I wasn't thinking, I knew the old ecu wasn't obd-II. My driving is part 75~80mph freeway, part around town. I'm good now. Did a lot of work to get good mpg, but it is what it is, so now I'm just going to drive and not worry about it. Thanks.

It's most likely the larger tires. Make sure you get the speedometer set correctly for the tires you run. Narrow, 12" tires will give you the best mileage, go to narrow 13" if you want. Yes, they look like sh!t, but you will get better mileage.

So i was getting 45 mpg and sad. i really changed the way i drove. and that helped a ton with my 98 metro. duct tape my front bumper so more aero. removed ps mirror. got a ultra gauge obdii mpg computer and xfi cam. got 56mpg at last fill up. thats best ever mpg. start driving like a granny. and try not to go over 55. and put the 13inch wheels back on.

good luck.
