turns out I should be able to get my lc1 fixed for under 100 bucks. thats good news.

the car is getting a fresh batchof paint. straight down to the metal and all that good stuff.

still havent built that front lip, but ill have the skirts on again pretty soon. going with a glossy white like it was before. got 6000km on the motor now, 3rd oil so I figured I should get off my ass and finish the body. I want to sell this thing relatively soon for my cultus build (250+whp, lsd, etc etc)

heres my coppers after about 10000km

built a set of det cans

they work great, we added a ton of timing to it, and it keeps wanting more. it sounds great listening to the engine with this device. we still havent advanced it until we heard ping. we got roughly 5 more degrees in it, and it just made more power and sounds no different on the cans (very audible) but before we got pushing it to the limit I want to get that wideband in and tweak it so I know the afr is perfect (its maybe 90% good across the map). we got ~3degrees up high and 5 down low. we didnt push it much, we just adjusted it till it made a difference in the seat, and left it for the night. the plugs posted above are taken after the timing change too, so they are still doing good.
time for oil change #4 and a new set of plugs tomorrow....

but what the fuck!! and I guess a weld job too

my approx speeds in each gear is:
1st: 65kmh
2nd: 120kmh
3rd: 165kmh
4th: I dont know, clutch seemed to slip at 180, coming into the powerband

and ill be putting even bigger tires on yet.
she beats cars running mid 14's on only 14psi, so we'll see where 25 takes it in summer. peels first, second and even third if you bag the gears and the clutch. you literally need throttle control to not spin everywhere. soon be running 195/50/14 rt615's

What's up with all that rust on the manifold? did you coat it with calcium before you wrapped it with that damp cloth?

just how it came to me, I wrapped it with the header wrap. youd think the heat from the exhaust wouldnt keep it wet in the rain/snow? maybe not?

I've just never seen these tubes rotted like that, especially over such a short period of time

I think most of it is surface, like its not corroded through the metal, its just yellowed. any time ive gotten near that exhaust when it was running that wrap was real hot. I did wash it the other day, the engine bay, I may have gotten it wet and it just discolored it

actually, it does look like its rotting, I didnt look that close. some of it can flake off, like a layer of metal

since its been a while I figured id update

it has 32000km on the motor now, 9th oil change running 5w20 full synthetic now. compression is still mint across all three, plugs look great (though I went a few steps colder to a #8 plug... would have taken a 7, but they didnt have it, the 6's were a little too hot, and the 5's it calls for definitely would be, so better safe than sorry.

we slowly worked the boost up after closing in on a good ecu tune, and we started popping tubes off left and right, so upgraded to all tbolt clamps, changed a little bit of the piping going to the intercooler, and took about 6" worth of pipe out of the system.

then the bov started leaking around 20psi, its a 1g dsm bov, the metal one, so we crushed it, and all is good again.

the megasquirt will only read up to 255kPa currently (until I take it apart and solder a new map sensor on there) and the max ive logged is 247kPa, which is roughly 21.3psi. so thats sweet im hovering around the max limit. motor still isnt knocking, which is crazy, its only 94 octane with meth on 7.5:1 maybe (I think I keep reestimating my compression... below 8 anyways) and im running some pretty high numbers.

it just wont knock! which I guess is good, I just cant seem to get a max number to go with, but it actually responds better at a certain rpm and boost level with less timing because it helps to spool the turbo alot better. ive pulled as much as 6degrees out at 3700rpm and then add it right back in as soon as the boost gets up there, it pulls like a mofo!

only thing I havent fully tuned out is a damn rpm spike that is there 75% of the time passed 6700rpm or so. rarely does it spin all the way to 8500 without hiccuping at all, and it sucks. however, heres how my boost is pretty much made, just picking a few points out of my 3rd gear datalog, 4th will probably build a little lower/faster:
gets about,
1psi at 2800
2 at 3100
3 at 3800
4 at 4100
5 at 4700
6 at 5000
then my meth activates because the boost starts to build alot faster. 6psi activation point, 150psi pump
7 at 5100
8 at 5300
12 at 5600
14.5 at 5900
17 at 6200
19 at 6500
21-21.4 at 6700

so yeah, theres alot of waiting for the most part. and with first gear as useless as it is, I dont even see it cross 15 before im hitting the rev limiter, I see 20 in 2nd though

so im aquiring a new dsm bov, because I may have crushed mine a little too far. I hear it surge at times, and in my books, thats no good! even with my little 3banger having nearly no vacuum at idle, it still has plenty on decel, and is still not lifting that bov.

so im going to do this mod next: http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_bov_mod.html rather than the crush.

I have also decided that I will be leaving my 250kPa map sensor on. ive logged a max of 245! and which at my atmospheric level of 94kPa, is 22psi, virtually the max the injectors can take safely too. ive hit 86.7% duty cycle, and it holds 22psi all the way up to redline. the car is incredibly fast now. with my big tires being 12.5% larger than stock (did the calculations) and my 4.10tranny recently blown up, ive swapped in a 16.5% reduction. the 3.52 sohc. and daaaaamnnn do I love long gears in this thing, its definately faster because a) first goes up to nearly 80kmh b) wheel spin has been reduced by atleast 25% in the lower gears. not only that, but cruising at 120kmh/75mph went from 3500rpm to 3000, and on the last tank of gas I logged a 3mpg difference. including all the extra idling, tuning and bag driving I did. I cant wait to see what I can get if I am ever to drive this car nice.

I used synchromesh fluid which is significantly thinner than the 75/90 the tranny calls for, but wow does it ever shift nice. I know this tranny is less bagged, but DAMN, this is the best tranny out of the 6 ive been through... the only one ive used synchromesh in... hmm... lets hope the diff holds up.

I put a filter on my vr lines (rpm sensor) going to the ecu, but it hasnt solved the problem completely of noise at certain cruising rpms, it even causes a slight misfire... but its improved atleast. ive got new plug wires coming just in case, ive already got an upgraded coil being controlled by a stock ignitor through the megasquirt, and im using #8 plugs (too cold..) at 0.025" gap. but I wish it was still one step smoother though. Ive got a custom cam gear going in to compliment my other mods, +10 was too much and +6 still felt like too much, and it loves the rpms with a stock gear... so im trying a +4 next, its slow as balls in the low rpms. like 3cyls displacing 1liter with only 7:1 compression... yikes. it doesnt even make much of a difference down there if I go from 14.5afr to 12, so I just leave it at 14.5 till it revs up a little more

almost have everything figured out. the azenis are bald before 10000km even, rears still 90-95%. so ive got the backup 13's on there now, and they just spin and spin and spin, it was fun at first but shit I need to replace those azenis.

had to do a few ecu filtering mods, add a few capacitors and that straightened out a few issues, then I ran new power and ground lines to and from and ran the ground directly to the battery to avoid all noise all together. were up to about 85% functional now.

its holding 21psi, I had to get a different bov as I did the crush-mod on a talon one and crushed it too much. so then I did thedodgegarage mod on the next one and shes holding just fine (though its a little harder and surges sometimes)

got an underbody brace I havent put on yet, I need new front strut mounts before I do it, then ill get it realigned.

oh and I also blew another headgasket, the damn alcohol tank went dry and she pinged to death pretty quick. since then I shaved the head another 40thou (hopefully around 8:1 comp now. im up to 152psi per) but my belt is now too long, the tensioner is over-maxed and its currently good. its rigged so its solid and cant move, its just passed its normal amount of movement. maybe next time ill source a shorter belt, but I doubt it. just note to self, stop removing material from the head!

next on the list is to o-scope my coil charge time to maximize spark output, its a blaster coil and msd suggests around 2.5ms, but we'll see where it ends up being. and also o-scope the vr wires, I still have a minor hiccup up high if the boost is right up there, if its under 18 or so psi it will hit redline no problem but sometimes it spikes the rpm signal DOWN and causes the fueling/spark to be incorrect and you can feel it like its misfiring.

so hopefully the scope will solve that, and once its all good (end of the week?) the next thing on the list is the dyno and cranking up the timing

and this is what it looks like
Image

doors still have no paint

Hey swift13b, fun project you've got going on! Maybe I missed it, but what turbo are you using on this car? Are you still using those 360cc injectors? I'm curious what your duty cycle is at max boost and what fuel pressure you are running.

at 25psi it was something like 82% duty cycle, and whatever the max pressure is of a walbro 255hp. its a td04. I dunno which one

are you shifting at 5000 or what? why did I reach 120% with 450cc? 560cc turns out to be just ok.

nope, that was all the way passed 8000. its a 6 or 8:1 rising rate, tricky to tune... but once I got it right thats about where I was sitting. how can you have more than 100% anyways? I was running maximum fuel pressure

What happens to these people who disappear mid project? Makes me think of the stand up comedy of Mitch hedberg, on his bit about the "dufresne family, party of 2"
