Put out a feeler for cars locally, got a call on a 94 Chevy sprint.....checked it out, turns out (I think) that it is actually a GTI !!
All the makings of a GTI except for
1) no body kit (metro front and rear bumpers)
2)no power/folding mirrors (but controls are there in dash)
3)no gti steering wheel (Chevy sprint, looks like a vert airbag style)
4)no 1.3 twincam. (1.0 3cyl in its place)
kind of baffled on this one. guy is firm on his price, but then tells me he is not wanting to sell it.
will call him back in the next few weeks. he bought a new truck, he might get tight up for cash now that gas prices went up......or the price of the car will go up

All the things you listed above are the essentials that make a GT a GT...your only missing the front recaro seats, larger sway bars and rear disc brakes.
it reallt sounds like your looking at a base model swift.

it DOES have all those options, plus intact rear cargo tray!
in the door pillar it calls for 14 inch tires...it has 14 inch tires.
why would someone do this to the car? I found out why.
previous previous owner has a yellow vert......it has a rare ''1.3 twincam'' option, so I was told.....

Turbo Fly is today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe on Jalopnik!

http://jalopnik.com/for-3-700-this-pontiac-is-pretty-fly-1584458033/all

I voted NP in support of the marque, though I think it's really about $1000 too much.

Yeah, but you're Canadian.

IDK, it's not in good shape either--you're probably right. If I didn't already have my allotment of Swifts (1) I'd pay $3500 for a nice clean well sorted one.

Just watched this Old House and showed residential housing upgrades being made after hurricane Sandy went through the New Jersey shore Area. you do the math

i gave it crack pipe!

i know they are rare to find in the usa but look at that dash and the seat in the pics!

here's my channeling of this car's history (and i've watched the poor little waif get traded like a 2 dollar hooker for mony years. )

a young canadian heads south from toronto for a winter holiday in florida. the red turbofly breaks down in the sunshine state and the poor guy can't find a store with a turbo3 part to save his butt. he takes a taxi to the airport and leaves his car on a side street where billy bob, the tow truck driver finds it and tows it to his lot.

after 30 days billy bob has his buddy run paper to take ownership of the car, get's a new florida title on it, and the red turbo fly's life of misery begins.

in my opinion, you shouldn't be allowed to own a car like this unless you are a qualified mechanic and take the ownership as a promise of stewardship, sworn to keeping the car from turning into a pile of crap. =)

Well, i couldnt help myself.....it's a real nice specimen body is perfect except for a little damage from the seat belt on the drivers door(looks like someone continually tryed to slam it) and the side bolster, it's a really nice ride.
I think i need a support group :)

If that were local to me, I'd gladly give him $500 for it.

I don't think I'd pay $4500 for it under any circumstances, but it's still a pretty car.

That's pretty much identical to mine and just as clean, but with more mileage. I paid half that, but think I got a good deal.
