For sale is a 1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo. This is probably the original "Pocket Rocket". This series of cars were made by Suzuki for GM and were sold in the US from 1985-1988. They were all very light (1,650 Lb) and very fuel efficient (40 -- 50 MPG). All were powered by a 1.0L 3 cylinder carburated engine, mated with a 5 speed manual transmission or a 3 speed automatic transmission. The engine developed 48 HP so performance was modrest. The exception was this car. It uses the same basic 3 cylinder 1.0L engine but all other similarities end there. Instead of a carburetor, the factory installed multi-port electronic fuel injection with electronic spark control. It has forced air induction using an IHI turbocharger and inter-cooler. It has a beefier 5 speed transmission and larger clutch. The result is a 1,650 Lb package with 70+ HP and twice the torque of the carburated cars. It's a blast to drive, giving performance you won't believe. The engine was overhauled 20,000 miles ago, as was the turbocharger. It doesn't smoke or use oil. The transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding or noise. It still delivers 40 -- 45 MPG, depending how heavy you are with the throttle. There is a stock green BOOST light in the dash and an aftermarket BOOST gauge installed. There is very little rust, decent paint and interior. It's never been wrecked and runs and drives as good as new. These cars were only sold in 1987 -- 1988 and are very rare. If you are an early Suzuki auto fan, this car will help fill out your collection. More pictures are available.
