Just got a new (to me) JDM engine, and I am wondering if I just bought a turbo motor....not familiar with all the different exhaust manifolds available on these engines, but with the shape of the flange....thats what I'm thinking I got and if so, what am I looking at if I run NA on it??? low HP right? Help!

no turbo 3 cyls ive seen look remotely close to that, that manifold must be a two-parter as the clearance between the turbo housing and the block wouldnt work. that must be a different emissions-based manifold.... it has the aluminum valve cover with the fins from the looks of things, but doesnt seem to have an oil drain

Thanks, I was wondering cause the mainfold had that strange 4 bolt flange on it, the valve cover is the same as the prior motor finned on the top without the turbo badge, I was just confused cause of the flange.....but whats the oil drain

Turbo motors have a pipe mounted for the oil return hose from the turbo.
in your pictures the area next to the oil filter there is an angled face in the block just to the right of the filter, this is where the pipe is usually mounted pointing down toward the pan to allow the oil to drain back into the pan.
This is one of the ways to tell if the block is a turbo one, the second is on the other side near cylinder # 2/
there will be a knock sensor hole and a sensor mounted there.

excellent. well it has neither of those so I guess I'm good to go with installing this and getting my little metro goin again!!! now that we know it isn't a turbo motor, any way from the serial # of the motor to determine what year it is and so forth? The motor has a PS pump on it, and the brackets for AC, does not have an intake of any sort and that funky exhaust manifold......
