I am currently in the process of rebuilding the G10. During tear down a component fell out and I have no idea where it came from. It was covered in oil so I am assuming it came from either an oil gallery or the oil pump. It looks like it's some kind of flow control. I say this because it has a captive ball that looks to seal when pushed by some kind of liquid (I assume oil). I need to figure this out before I move forward because it seems to be a critical component. I have the service manual, but I have yet to find the part. Please help in identifying the component and it's location in the engine. Thank you.

Looks like the oil drainback flow check valve in the head.

Thank you for the fast response. That makes sense as to why I could not find it in the service manual, I was looking under the block and not the cylinder head.

I poked around in the book and still haven't found much information on it other than this picture:

They show it in another picture a few pages before this one, but no information on it. My problem I will have is that I do not know the proper orientation of the component. Maybe it will become apparent when I go to reinstall it, but if not I will have to know the direction of oil flow and it's full purpose to figure it out. Any further insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced!

This valve fits in the block with the screw looking slot facing the head.

That would work if he knew it was a check valve.
