Post subject:  idle problems ???

i have a g10 in my 79 mini.....when the car warms up the idle goes up and down by itself, and finally evens out, but idles at
around 2,000 rpm...the engine is from a 1994 california car......and doesnt have an idle adjustment on the throttle body
how can i fix this this ,,,,thanx for your help chuck

I'm currently dealing with the exact same symptoms.

I'm still working out little bugs trying to find the source, but my money is on the TPS or somewhere in the EGR/Idle control valve.

To test your TPS:
-Disconnect negative battery terminal
-Remove air filter housing from TB (It's only 2 bolts and two hoses)
-Pull top of TPS - (little black electronic thing on passenger side of TB)
-Loosen the two screws that hold TPS onto side of TB, but do not remove them
-Rotate TPS fully clockwise until it stops
-Connecte volt meter, set to test continuity, to the first two pins of the TPS
-Slowly rotate TPS counter clockwise until you have continuity (an extra set of hands really helps)
-Tighten screws and reinstall everything.

I got my idle to even out after doing this but it is still slightly high. I will be moving onto the EGR system this weekend and seeing if I can't get this nailed down. It's not a big deal, really, but it's annoying and I know the dieseling/run-on that I get after I turn the car off isn't good for it in the longrun.

I have a 93 vert, which used to have a high idle issue. It would mostly (but not always) sit around 1500-1800 rpm, when warm.
Now, about a year later, it turned into a low idle issue (when engine is warm). 80-90% of the time it has this issue. The remaining time rpm is normal.

What could this be caused by? It's always been running lean, in case this could be part of the issue. Lately started using a bit more oil also.
