Need some help with a 97 Geo Metro I'm fixing up to sell.

The starter clicks, clicks clicks, sometimes starts the motor.

New starter.
New battery.
Cleaned connections.
Jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver, sometimes it starts the car, sometimes it just spins the starter without engaging the flywheel. Seems to be lots of power there (arc welds the screwdriver to the solenoid terminals. :D)

I'm out of ideas, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

starter or ignition switch. i would keep checking the starter though. more often than not reman starters are junk.

FWIW this is in the wrong section. should be in the mk4/mk5 section.

check to make sure that you installed the steel spacer plate and that you have the face of the starter solid and square on the mounting flange on the block. check the bolts for torque.

clean the mating face, ring terminal connector, and bolt for the grounding cable attached to the transmission housing and clean the battery clamps and both poles on the battery. make sure everything is snugged up tight.

if the installation is correct and you still have problems, it could very well be a pissed up starter. in my case, i have found more wiring problems, loose spade connectors on the low current start signal wire, worn out key switches, battery problems, etc. than actual bad starters.

you can also haul the starter out and carry it to an auto zone for them to spin up on their testing machine.

Cleaning the connectors may not be enough. I have had wires corroded 2"+ up inside the insulation. The first time it happened I was stumped.
