Define old code. You are saying it is a code that has appeared before?
My understanding is that you can reset the ECU by:
1 Disconnecting the positive terminal of the battery
2 Turning the key to the on position
3 Putting your foot on the brake

The reason for steps 2 and 3 are to drain any residual stored voltage from the system. Once this is done, the ECU should drop any stored codes. If I have been given duff info, anybody.... feel free to correct this.
