Been looking at a 93 swift. Which is RHD. Are parts like axles and what not interchangeable? As it is a 1.3l I assume the engine is the same. (Not a gti) is the transmission the same? Would I be able to find parts in the United States?

If you are looking at a RHD 1.3 SOHC TBI '93 Swift which is FWD 5 speed, rather than AWD, most of the engine/transmission mechanical parts are a cross between the North American spec MK3 and MK4 1.3 SOHC 8V TBI and the later 1.3 SOHC 16V EFI engines. It has a different foot pedal assembly, steering column, fuel door release and hood release cable layout, and turn signal combination switch, firewall sheet metal, heater blower duct and fan blades (reverse pattern blades), and of course the RHD instrument panel, wiper linkage, outside cowl plastic cover, and radio antenna on the right windshield post. Most of the other interior trim pieces are the same.

The instrument cluster will have a few different warning light circuits enabled. You will likely have a tilt steering column, as well as lower seat cushion angle adjusters, an ECON setting for your A/C, as well as power steering, and power windows with one touch up/down on the right side. Depending on the origin of the RHD car, the radio tuner may be unable to handle North American frequencies.

You will be missing the DRL lamp module, and your rear defogger wires will be straight across, since RHD cars do not have the center mounted stop light circuit in the hatch. The front fenders will have light repeaters installed, and the headlights will be glass and have different bulbs. The turn signal lenses in the bumper will be smooth finished and darker amber in color. You may have working lamps in the centre tail lamp unit.

I realised I did not answer your question. Yes you should buy it if you can insure/register it in your state.

RockAuto sells some maintenance parts for Cultus spec models, but most of the mechanical parts will be the same as the Swift, albeit sometimes requiring you to specify a different, usually a later model year. For example, I have a 1991 JDM Cultus which was equipped with the 1993-up North American spec. bumper covers, but without any of the US/CDN spec rebar pieces behind the cover.

From the pictures in the Craigslist ad, it appears to be of a normal LHD Swift. The blurry interior photo shows the ignition slot facing the center of the car, which is not possible. Another clue is that the windshield sticker is on the left side of the car in the exterior photo, but appears on the right side in the interior photo. Also, the speedometer needle is at rest on its peg at the 5 o'clock position.

So, I think you are assuming it is RHD by looking at reversed photo images - unless you have actually been able to see the car in person and can confirm it is RHD. :D

It is a regular LHD .
The 2 pictures of the exterior show the steering wheel on the LHD side.
