Bought this turbo of a bloke on ebay, he said it was a genuine garret gt2871r ball bearing turbo that he had bought for a project, but was never used. Couldnt tell me much more on spec tho. Problem is it dosnt seem to have the same exhaust outlet as the t25 im currently using???? I thought the t28 and t25 had the same exhaust housing? so now i'm worrying it's not what he said it is.

can someone please i.d this turbo?

Ok cheers for that.

I'm pretty sure it’s ball bearing turbo the wheel spins very freely not like my standard t25 journal turbo, I will check with Garrett though.

Problem I have is my turbo mani has a t25 flange and this turbo has a t3 exhaust housing! So I been thinking would I be able to swap the exhaust housing from my t25 to the gt2871r? Otherwise I’ll have to spend like $400 on a new manifold. I could buy a t3 flange and weld it on but would rather sort with a bolt on bolt off joby.

If anyone can give me a little guidance on this matter would greatly appreciate it.

I'm not a turbo guy. I have only dealt with direct replacement on heavy diesel. you could always change the manifold. that way its not a cobbled mess and you could always go back to stock easily. Another option is to make an adaptor that goes between your manifold and the turbo

Ive spent a bit to much on swift this month if I can swap the exhaust housing from my t25 to the gt2871r that wouldnt cost me and I could keep my down pipe and mani ect ect.

Will I have to swap the turbo wheel in exhaust housing aswell?

I'm not sure if i can swap the t25 exhaust housing because the t25 a journal bearing and this is ball bearing?

Same here mate, i'm not a turbo guy this is only the second turbo ive ever laid hands on. Its all new to me

GT2871r is T25 flange only by garrett. All the turbine housings options are T25 flanged.
That exhaust turbine is not by garrett.

Swapping housings with your T25 is not possible, the turbine wheel of your T25 is smaller.

'Maybe' you can swap turbine wheels, but not likely because one being journal the other roller bearing.
Calling your local turbo specialist could definatly answer that question.

The turbo is defo a gt2871r I checked the codes with garret. it has the garrett compresor housing but the exhaust housing is a t3! The bloke said he bought it new and i have the original box. I did a little searching online and a couple garrett suppliers offer this turbo with option t3 exhaust housing so this must be how he bought it.

problem now is getting the right exhaust housing

Will a standard t28 exhaust housing work?

Yes. It has t28 wheel with t3 inlet. Inlet size and bolt pattern are differences. The part for turbine is the same
