anybody have an extra... mildly blown up or whatever?

Venolia can make forged versions for $75USD a piston or so, which is something I'm looking into. If they already have a piston I do believe it's easier for them. If someone had an extra, it's save some calculations on my part, so let me know.

Hey Tony what # piston blew up when you had that problem earlier this year? 2 or 3?

Kyle Jones 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi
Your friendly TeamSwift Op.

Just got a set of 40 over venolia pistons thru Paeco. Since we had to send an old piston, they should already have specs.

Thanks! I don't really want to spend the time trying to figure out the numbers myself although I suppose in a way it would be better. I already gave them an email and if I don't hear back from them soon, I'll give them a call.

Isn't 40 over almost a bit too much? I thought 30 over was the safer way to go. Perhaps it just had something to do with the cylinder wall thickness... or then again, maybe I'm remembering the numbers wrong

To be honest I don't know which one blew up. I do have all 4 still at home. Mine are 75mm. I think it was Nestor that has JE in stock and they are WAY less than that. You can get Ross pistons for way less too. Let me know if I can help you out
Keep those RPM's high!www.lobase.homestead.com/lobase.html

Hey Tony, I thought I recall Nestors prices on the other boad being $300USD for a set of cast pistons supposedly a tad stronger than the normal GTi. And something like $500USD for his Forged version.
Are the Ross forged as well? If they are I think you can definetely help me out. Grab me a price or whatever and let me know on here or in my email.

kyle_jones@hotmail.com

Thanks...

Kyle Jones 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi
Your friendly TeamSwift Op.

I pay $650.00 for JE 12.5 to 1 75mm piston from Nestor, this was like 2 years ago so probably they cost less now.

Bolivar

If anyone need forged low compression pistons, then I recommend the Vitara 1.6L pistons. They're 75mm and forged and when used in the GT will drop the compression to about 8.5:1. I bought a set of JE 75mm 8.5:1 pistons from Nestor about 6 months ago and paid $550.00 plus S/H, If I had known about the Vitara's by that time, I should have saved about $400.

any adaptation needed? wrist pins and such?

Probably some adjustable cam sprockets to deal with those? If I can find a set of Vitara pistons for that cheap, I'm for it. But the dealer here doesn't seem to be much cheaper than aftermarket.

Kyle Jones 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi
Your friendly TeamSwift Op.

The JE pistons came with wrist pins and "clips". The wrist pins are the same diameter as the stock ones 19 mm. The vitara's pistons are 26 mm from wrist pin to piston top while the GT's are 28.2(according to Iain's site), that's why they lower the compression to about 8.5:1.

Vitara's pistons are around US $35-$40 each brand new, here in Puerto Rico. At least that's what a friend told me, I'll have to check with the local dealer.

Think you're mistaken there, any Vitara/Swift 1.6's I've torn down all have had cast pistons fitted. I don't have a Vitara 16V manual any more but theSwift 1.6 one clearly states "Cast Aluminium Piston". Since they're the same price and part number from Suzuki, I'd be very confident in saying they're all Cast, not forged.

By the way, the compression height of the piston is from the centre of the pin to the top of the crown and is:
G13b 29.1 mm
G16b 28.5 mm

Iain

He did not take Visa so I was kinda leary sending 850 bucks to someone I have never even met! Fred said that Ross would make a set for around 700 canadian if I remember right.
Keep those RPM's high!www.lobase.homestead.com/lobase.html
