Hey guys, I have a friend selling his '90 Metro 3dr for $200. I was thinking of making it into a GRM $200x challenge car. I happen to have an extra 4AGE 1.6L sitting around from my old MR2. Has anyone done this swap before? Any ideas on how hard it would be? I suppose I should start by getting the measurements of the engine bay, wheelbase, and then measuring the engine and trans w/ axles. I also have a FWD transmission from a JDM Levin, so I don't need to worry about converting the MR trans to FF. Anyhow, what do y'all think?

i'll assume you havent done such a thing before. first make sure the crank rotates in the right direction, i am unfamiliar with that trans but the engine is well regarded!
great project if you love working on cars and have 40+ hrs.
off the cuff:
you will need a welder for custom motor mounts.
hydraulic clutch i hope.
custom rad hoses
Toyo computer and engine harness
add an external fuel pump-- toyo?
may have to install larger fuel line?
perhaps change the rad for more cooling
shifter location?
brake upgrade!
and more!

That's more or less along the lines of what I was thinking. Luckily I have access to a welder, but that does remind me I will need to source an extra wiring harness since I sold mine. The clutch is hydraulic so that won't be much of an issue, and the coolant lines are no big deal either.

i have actually been looking into doing this swap with a blacktop 4age with a six speed. i have talked to my tuner and its possible. buying an entire front clip makes things much easier. axles are an issue, if the axles are compatible then things are gravy but if they don't fit, things get more expensive. these are very nice motors and are much cheaper than b16's and b18's.
