After reading many threads on 1.6 and 1.5 conversions requiring different bell housing, flywheels etc. I think due to the location of my car (Costa Rica) and shipping costs . I feel it will be better to take out the bore to 76mm of my present engine and use Honda pistons but I read these pistons make a high compression. Due to low grade fuel in CR is there any pistons I can use to give me a 10:5.1 compression ratio?

I have been offered some Honda D16Z6 P18 pistons. What CC will this give the 1.3? the comp ratio will be?

Wow the big bore is a big bore!! I have had so many recomendations for pistons my head's spinning. So do I go with grand Vitara? Honda?

All I need is a simple piston change to increase the bore and hopefully gain a little more BHP without a high piston melting compression ratio. Folks say the Vitara is the way to go as it's a straight swap without machining. Then others say the Honda is better.......ouch.

Or is it better to do the max oversize rebore using standard pistons?

What CC will I get?

only thing i know
the vitara pistons get used by the turboguys cause they take down the compression ratio
the hondas problaby have higher compression

Thanks Tom.

The Honda pistons require machining I'm told whereas the Vitara do not. Depends on how low the comp ratio is for the Vitara? I was told maybe the 8V Vitara pistons will work?

I've been looking at different pistons. Standard 74mm GTI is flat top, 74mm Cultus is raised, Honda Civic 75mm P28 have valve cut outs but are dished so would suit a turbo engine. Honda 75mm P29 are raised like the Cultus with valve cut outs. The Honda pistons are press fit pins so would require so work to accept the C ring floating type Suzuki pin. Vitara I have yet to see and measure.

From what I have read the d16 pistons give about a 12 to 12.5 cr. they have a shorter deck hight block so the piston itself might be a little taller. Hope this helps. Thanks Stephen

Thanks I'm coming to the conclusion for turbo's there is a lot of options but for NA nothing that gives a reliable CR. I did notice the Honda piston dome was higher than the Cultus piston so I figured the CR must way higher. Looks like I need to buy some Cultus pistons
