im starting to think about fabricating my manifold for my carbs now the inlet hole is oval which has presented a problem and the only cheap way ( as in doin it myself) is weldin sum tubes of the rite dia on to a plate.
iv got a press break at work and its got a good 50 ton of pressure in it so i will be able to squash one end of the tube to form a round-oval (see the pic thats if its loaded properly) but the oval end seems to b alot larger than the standard. i rekon i could wiv alot of grinding match the two up
wot do you lot fink?

cheers

Hi Gary,

Some ppl from here used silicon pipes to deal with what you are trying to do.
Rather than make and weld ali pipe to oval to circle, tubing will do that for you.
Don't weld cylinder head like mine, it did require machining afterwords to get it true again.

Will you be using R1 carbs or something similar?

Cheers

i dont realy fancy usin silicone tubes and im not usin ali , i would prefer 2 but we dont have any ali tube the rite size at work but i do have sum mild steel it`l be a bit heavyer i no but its gona cost me nuffin so the pros outweigh the cons plus it wont bow as much as ali especialy if i mig weld not tig.
i allready have sum r1 4xv carbs they`r in good nick wiv trumpets and the proper manifold rubber joints(£50 alltogether) and 1 clip is missin but thats ebay 4u

Hi Gary,

Looks good but what thickness flange did you use?
When you weld, it may distort so....
Are you using carbs or throttle bodies?
I'm sure you said you are using carbs but I just thought using one like yours, you can keep injectors and use ITBs.

that's all.

cheers

the flange is 8mm thick and the tube wall is 2mm it didnt distort 2 much it woz only bout 2/3mm each end i managed to beat out flat wiv a nylon mallet i should`ve bowd it out b4 i welded cum 2 think of it but its done now

i was goin 4 itb`s ibut the amount of cash i will b savin wiv carbs means that i will b able to buy sum nice coil overs and a shorter final drive so it sems the best option
