I read that GTi's came with a 4.1:1 final drive ratio. But that would mean that this specific final gear ratio would be on the 'wide side' ... am i wrong ?

YES

3.52 is the tallest ratio which gives the least acceleration.
4.389 is the lowest ratio which gives the most acceleration.

The factory production code for that transmission is FX9. FSM refers to the two available 5 speeds as M42 and M58 with no explanation of which is which. No one has ever figured out what any codes directly on the transmission mean. If you're sure it came out of a three cylinder with 13" wheels, it's a 4.39.

Hi guys. I recently bought a 93 swift gt. the guy said the engine was changed. Not sure if the transmission was too. Can you tell if I have a gt transmission or a regular one? Or what final drive does it sound like i have? I don't feel a lot of power while driving. And I think in 3rd gear I redline at like 115 km/h. What dou you guys think? I don't have the rpo code sheet either. (I also have a 2000 swift 1.3 sohc and can do 140 in 3rd and its not even at redline yet). Does it sound like I have the right transmission in my car? Also do all gt transmissions have the same final drive? What should the final drive be for a 5sp gt with a dohc?
