I have a 1988 chevy sprint with 328000 miles and for the second time the manual transmission is starting to pop out of first gear. I replaced the first one at about 175000 miles and would like to know if it would be better to try and rebuild this one or get another from a salvage yard. Ive rebuilt automatic transmissions but never a manual so if anyone has information on what to look for if I do rebuild it i would really appreciate it.

The manuals arent to bad to rebuild, if you can handle an auto, you could likely handle a manual. The biggest part to be aware of with that particular issue is that it does require "hard parts", ie new first gear hub and slider ring, a bit more than just a rebuild kit with synchros and bearings will come with. Just a heads up, pretty frustrating to rebuild with a kit only to have the same problem after.
On the mk2+ cars there are a lot more trannies left to pull parts from, but to my knowledge the mk1 hub etc is different, and a bit hard to find unfortunately. Looks like mxmikie could save your day though!
