I have a problem with a 1994 Metro. I have to manually shift the automatic transmission and it wants to stall. I know that the shift solenoids go bad on these. I ordered a new one which is cylinder shaped but the transmission has square ones. Can I still use the cylinder shaped one in place of the square one? This transmission came from Japan and I don't know what year car it was from. The engine also doesn't run idle fast when it is on cold start up and is running rich.

How do your spark plugs look? Have you pulled them?
