Assuming standard tyre size, about 240kph, 150mph (assuming you have the power to get to that speed :) )

the 4.39:1 vert transmission in a vert with the top down on 195/55 15 tires got me to 130 mph at around 8000 rpm. that was all the engine would run flat out, pedal to the stop.

my mods were smooth bore induction tube with cone filter, cultus header, lightened flywheel, rallye chip, 2.25" (58mm) free flow exhaust - nothing radical.

With the 4.39 and 185 55 14 tires I got my GT to 185 km/h in 3rd gear :P That was enough for me.

What's the power output of the car at the moment? Should easily be able to go beyond 100mph.

As grape said it all depends on hp but from a mathematical point of view assuming 185/55/14 tyres (almost stock OD) and gti gearing of 1.03 for 4th and 0.87 for 5th gear @9000rpm

Top Speed in 1 gear = 37.742 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4991 RPM dropping 4009 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 68.055 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 6530 RPM dropping 2470 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 93.792 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 6742 RPM dropping 2258 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 125.207 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 7611 RPM dropping 1389 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 148.064 MPH

The reality is unless it's downhill, turbo'ed or you have a tail wind you'll most likely be fastest in 4th gear.

If you had standard gearing then you would get

Top Speed in 1 gear = 37.742 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4991 RPM dropping 4009 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 68.055 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 6079 RPM dropping 2921 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 100.753 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 6427 RPM dropping 2573 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 141.098 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 7464 RPM dropping 1536 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 170.137 MPH

3rd gear you say? And the gearbox didn't explode.....nice! I usually don't like to rev very high on the lower gears for fear of quickly wearing out the synchros...I do remember pulling to 120km/h on third and easily 160km/h on 4th with an oem gearset.
