I know this is a Swift website, but you guys know a lot!! So this is my question..

I have a 1.6L SOCH Suzuki Esteem that the manual transmission went out! Here in North America it's impossible to find the original transmission! I've been looking for months now, but to no avail! Recently on this website I saw that the G16, and J18 transmission boxes share the same bolt patterns, but I am unsure if they the same size! If they were to be the same, what would I have to change to fit a 1.8L tranny unto my 1.6L motor, I know for sure that axles are gonna change! Cable clutch to hydraulic clutch, and most likely the shifter, and get my self a 1.8 clutch kit right?

And if it were to all work out, would my car feel better and stronger??

G16 Cable shift box as found in the swift are the same as the J18 box bar the mounting points. use the same clutch setup Gearing is longer than the "small' boxes. G16 Esteem/Baleno uses the Swift 1.0/1.3 gearset with a 3.7 diff ratio. the inboard joints cannt be inter changed.

What happened specifically to your esteem trans? There will be no driver felt improvement with change to a cable shift box. There will be a lot of time spent doing a massive revamp to install the entirely different setup into your car. Not remotely worth it for an esteem, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the esteem is a great little car, I've owned three briefly at times, and maintain all of them for the current owners.
Your best bet if you can't find another transmission is to have a trans shop repair yours. A good used swift/metro gearbox would work fine to source parts from. Basically swap the front case half from the esteem onto the swift gearbox internals. I'm sure this was suggested in one of your other posts. A member here did the opposite in order to install a 1.6 esteem engine into a swift. I personally have used a swift 5th gear assembly to repair an esteem that 5th had failed on.
