I have just fitted a new dog kit to my swift but the idler gear looks to not match with the new kit.
How mant teeth should be on the idler gear ?

There's two different reverse gear ratios, the really late models might have the lower ratio, when I get home ill count the teeth on both for you.

For all the G10/G13 boxes the idler has 29 teeth and the input shaft has 11, I didn't count the number of teeth on the low speed hub.
I also have a late model K12 box here and even lots lots of parts are interchangeable it does run a lower ratio reverse gear and has smaller teeth, 35 on the idler and 12 on the input shaft.

I ordered one from Suzuki as the one installed had 35 teeth but the kit was built for one with 29 teeth.
Does this mean my gearbox was not Gti ?

I can't give you a definitive answer on that as there are some market differences but I suspect you probably have a later model sohc gearbox or more likely your gti box has been broken more than a few times and the input shaft and reverse idler gear replaced with a later model variant,

The main thing is that you have a gti casing with the extra lug, if you have the old gears you can count the teeth.

Standard gears
41 12 3.417
36 19 1.895
32 25 1.280
32 35 0.914
25 33 0.758

Gti
41 12 3.417
36 19 1.895
33 24 1.375
34 33 1.030
27 31 0.871

Checked it against the pictures and it is a Gti box
Must have had a re-build at some time in the past maybe ?

Anyway, new kit is now installed so just to fit in the car and test !
