Greetings,

There is a decent looking 89 Swift GTi for sale near me on eBay. I've had a thing for these since watching someone race one in SCCA improved touring back in the early 2000s. I'd love to pick this one up to fool around with, but I gotta have a manual transmission.

I've dug around on the forums but I haven't found a concise answer on this. Assuming I could lay my hands on a used manual gear box somewhere, could a competent mechanic do a swap without a ton of hassle (i.e. fabrication)? I don't mind spending money on something like this, but I'd want to at least make sure it can be done with scrounged off the shelf parts without needing to do major crafting in order to mate everything up.

If anyone has any experience with something like this or any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks!

-b

There were a couple of posts on this topic ages ago. Ideally you need a donor manual car.
If you pm me I'll email the post from ages ago as I archived it to my computer.....

first welcome to forum. there is a lot of threads about auto to manual threads..... for example here is the best thread so far. http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=52368 try to search as best as you can.

Actually, if you have any mechanic experience then it's do-able... it's not impossible task.

Aha! Thanks. Now I see why a donor car is important.
