Yeah, the rest of the world kept the same body and just got cosmetic upgrades again. Like MK2-3 did.

I know the GTi stock limit is 7500 for the DOHC, I would imagine the SOHC would be the same or a little less.
A tach would be a great upgrade for your car, you should get one installed there are plenty of aftermarket ones you can buy and install.
The guys on Redlinegti might be able to help you, as most of them are in your country.

It's probably 6500 - I have a '93 Swift GLX 1.3 with tach and that's what the tach shows

My engine says G13B on the block and on the name tag - it's an 8V, SOHC, carburetted engine.

thanks for your replies. looks like i'll have to invest in a tacho.

since my last post i have inastalled a redline 16-7 performance air cleaner, (i was delighted that it screwed straight onto the existing stud.) and also fitted a vacuum filter to the top of the head cover and blocked off the pvc valve. wether this modification has done it all, or i just haven't tried before, but i can now push it to 100km/h in 2nd gear, and it still sounds like i could ask it for more.
i took a late model toyota celica at the lights, and he had it in 4th while i was still in 2nd, left him for dead, and because my car looks like a bit of a bomb (with a number of dammaged pannels) he wasn't real impressed to be left behind.

as they say, "don't judge a book by it's cover"

I'm looking at buying a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTI with an automatic engine which the guy says
is already rebuilt on the 116K body. What should I be looking for when I look at it this weekend?
I cam weary about the engine needing a rebuild so soon...

Please update your profile with location so we can understand, if you are talking miles or kilometers.
116K in kilometers is barely broken in on the car, in miles its 180k+ in kms.
so which is it?
I don't think a rebuild is needed, unless the car was abused and not well maintained.
both my 89 GTi's have over 220K in KMS on them and they run well no burning oil or many other issues.
Condition of mechanicals very much depends on the previous owners treatment of the car.
Timing belt would be for sure something that needs attending to.
you need to inspect the belt take off the top piece of the timing cover takes 5 minutes to do this and check for belt condition and or leaky oil seals on the cams.
dry and clean is excellent, lots of oil residue needs attention.
any other oil leaks as well, indicate problems.
although these problems can be overcome with some work and tlc.

How to identify your car via VIN (Vehicle Identification Number):

In North America:
This page starts with the VIN and gives you basic car information:

Hi guys,

I drive the new shape Swift, what you would possible call the MK5, was manufactured from 2005+, with an M15A engine.
Under what section can I post details of my car?
As far as I know, you don't get this model in USA.

Sorry, but welcome none the less!

Being a primarily North American site, we pretty much ignore your car here (a lot of that is jealousy).   We don't mind hearing about them, but know very little except that we wish they would bring them here.

hey all this is my 1st reply to a post,
M basically from India , looking to buy the Maruti Suzuki Esteem, Thats what it is called in india.
Did a bit of googling and around the world its called differently,
wiki shows this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maruti_Esteem
Want to know which parts and upgrades can be used for this car or which parts would be compatible with this.

Sorry if i am posting this comment in the wrong place.
Thought this would be relevant to the above post .

Welcome to Teamswift
not sure what a Maruti Esteem looks like.
Any way you can post some pictures may help us help you.
What year is it also.
searching the car it looks similar to a swift sedan, the body style being like what we had here in NA from 89-94
Also what engine is in you car as well.

Hi all I recently purchased a 1984 suzuki swift. It has a GA Badge on the rear of the car. Is carby 993cc g10 engine. Also has rear leaf springs. What Im wondering is for parts should I be looking for parts for the 85 model or are there differences between the 2 because all the inf I have found so far has been for the 1985+. Oh I am from Australia too. I know most of you guys are from america but I thought some of you would know.
Thankyou.
