In replacement front, l/r frame sections,? I think its about time I come up with a kit.
Feed back Please.
We all know the shame of it all when we have to get rid of a perfectly good car because of a little rust issue.
Many of these cars are in great shape other than frame rust.
Well in the next few weeks I'm gonna be working this problem out. I,ve been a journeyman fitter/welder for 33 years and have always taken pride in my ability to build whatever is needed and I do think that there is a need for a replacement frame section. What do you think?
I will be doing my mock-up on a 92 Metro vert. and if all goes well I will expand to other years and models.
I have no idea of price at this time, as these will all be hand made items. I will guarentee top quality in every one produced.

it IS a problem. most of us weld some steel on the old frame. are you going to produce a new box section? pics of what you do will likely get a big response.

I was going to construct a one-piece frame repair/support with pre-installed lower control arm mounts myself, but figured trying to manufacture and sell them would be a problem with liability issues.

I can guarantee that my product will be free from defects, I can't guarantee the installation, as this will be a self installed kit. Hence Insurance.

Since we are all talking about killer rust, why not go one step further and stop it completely. That is to use stainless steel. I know nothing about metal and welding. But I do know it cost more, harder to work with. I believe their is a stainles steel rod/weld that can be welded to steel. It could be done in small pieces. This would hold up no matter what you throw at it.
Would putting in a stainless steel plates in, cause the regular steel that touches it to rust more?

Just a thought,

Take Care,
Geo3

Hey Fabman, did you ever make any rust repair panels? I have cars sitting in my back yard that could use the repair panels.

I don't think anything ever came of it. He moved down to Kentucky for work a couple years ago. Not sure if he comes on here much anymore though.
