photo albums are now all setup, please post any pictures to your album then link it to the forum from there, or just tell people to look @ the picture in your personal (or one of the group) galleries .. you CAN upload pictures directly into your post, however attachments will be deleted if/when we need to free up some space. so please upload to your galleries .. this will save a lot of bandwidth & make everything faster.
an example, i've uploaded a picture to my gallery (album)
i can either link to the page http://www.teamswift.net/album_page.php?pic_id=1
or directly to the image
http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1
or i can paste the image in using the img tags
Image
thanks

for posting pictures from your album, you need to insert the URL of the image itself using the img & /img tags, not the URL of the page the pictures are on ..

eg. (album_pic.php correct, doesn't need to have any .jpg or such)
http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=102

vs. (album_page.php this it the page the image is viewed on)
http://www.teamswift.net/album_page.php?pic_id=102

Please make sure that you are logged into your account. If you are viewing this guide as a guest, the images won't be visible

INTRO
When you're looking at a webpage with a picture on it, in order for that picture to be displayed, the HTML code for the page needs a valid URL for where the picture is located. You need that same URL to insert an image into a post. If the image you want to link to is sitting on the harddrive of your computer, you'll need to upload it to a server on the internet in order to display it on a webpage.

Don't Use Attachments
Whenever you compose a new message, the editting window has an option to include an attachment with your message. Using attachments is a very poor way to include images, it consumes unneccessary bandwidth, and whenever the server is low on free harddrive space, attachments are the first things to get deleted. Attachments should only be reserved for uploading files that are not pictures, or in the rare event you have a large image that would loose too much detail if it was reduced in size.

A Better Way
As a member of the TeamSwift.net forum, you have your own personal upload space to store images you want others to see, as well as link to in your posts. This section will describe how to use your personal gallery to upload images.

Images Sizes
Before you upload any images to the server, please take a moment to crop and scale the image down to a suitable size. Many of our members use dialup connections, and it takes them considerably longer to view a page, if it has larger images on it.

File Types
The album only supports JPEG, GIF or PNG images. Please ensure your images are in one these file types prior to uploading them. Use JPEGs for photos, use GIF for line art or technical drawings, use PNG if you don't like GIF.
<hr>

Click on Photo Album at the navigation toolbar at the top of the screen.
Image

<hr>
You will then arrive at the Photo Album Category screen. Click on Your Personal Gallery at the bottom of the category section.
Image

<hr>
You will then be looking at the thumbnail page of your image gallery. If you don't have images uploaded, it will appear blank, as in the screen capture below. Click on the Upload Pic button to continue.
Image

<hr>
You will now be at the Upload Pic screen. From here you can locate an image on your computer by clicking on the Browse button
Image

<hr>
A window will open to let you navigate to the image on your harddrive.
Image

<hr>
You can now give your image a title, and a description. When you are done, click on the Submit button.
Image

<hr>
You will then briefly see a status screen confirming your upload.
Image

<hr>
You will then be brought back to your image gallery, which will be updated with an a thumbnail of the image you just uploaded. You can view the image by clicking on the thumbnail.
Image
Image

Now that you've learned how to upload an image, continue on to the next section to learn how to link to the image in your post.

BASIC IMAGE POSTING TECHNIQUES

When you're looking at a webpage with a picture on it, in order for that picture to be displayed, the HTML code for the page needs a valid URL for where the picture is located. You need that same URL to insert an image into a post. When you're at a gallery page, you need to get the URL source for the image being displayed. The gallery page URL is different from this, and won't work at all with the BBcode IMG tags (the URL tags will still work). The following steps will show you how to extract the image URL from a gallery page, and use it to embed images in your posts.

STEP 1: The difference between gallery page and image source URLs

This is a gallery page. The URL in the Location line is pointing to a webpage, not an image. Note the section of the URL that says "album_page.php", and the titlebar on the window that says "TeamSwift.net :: Photo Album"
Image

This is an image. This isn't a webpage and there is no other content present. The location line has the source URL for where this image is stored. This is the URL you need for image linking. Note the section of the URL that says "album_pic.php", and the titlebar on the window that says "album_pic.php JPEG Image, 587x352 pixels" The next section will cover different ways to get this URL.
Image

STEP 2: Getting the image URL
There's a few ways to get the source URL for an image:

Method A:
• go the image properties window and copy it from there (use this method if you use Internet Explorer)
Image
Image

<hr>
Method B:
• go directly to the image's URL, and copy it from the location line
Image
Image

<hr>
Method C:
• right-click and copy the url right from the image
Image

<hr>
STEP 2: Pasting the image URL
• using either your browser's Edit menu or by right-clicking, paste the URL into the Edit Post window
Image

STEP 3: Inserting BBcode tags
Once the image URL is pasted you will need to wrap it in BBcode tags to tell the server you want to display a picture. You also need to decide how you want it displayed in your post. Usually to display the image you would wrap the url with the IMG tags. However if you have a very large image you may wish to only have it show up as a link, in that case wrap the URL in a URL tag. Selecting your URL and clicking on the IMG or URL buttons will format the correct tags for you. You can also choose to type them out, if the buttons don't work in your browser.

The line with the blue URL tags will produce a link to the picture
The line with the red IMG tags will show the picture in the post
Image

This is an example of using the URL tag:
http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1

This is an example of using the IMG tag:
Image

<hr>

ADVANCED IMAGE POSTING TECHNIQUES

Using Images as links
It's also possible for a picture to become a clickable URL. In your BBcode, you will need the URL for your image thumbnail, as well as the URL you want the link to go to. To do this you basically wrap a BBcode IMG tag with a secondary URL tag:

sample code would look like this:
Code:
[url=http://www.teamswift.net/forum/index.php][img]http://www.teamswift.net/forum/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/img][/url]

the result would be this (image is a link that can be clicked):
Image

Using Thumbnails
If you have a large image that you don't want to directly show in your post, you can instead use a thumbnail. All images uploaded to the Album automatically have thumbnails generated for them. You can use these automatically generated thumbnails for previews in your posts. Using thumbnails involves a variation of the Images as links section mentioned above. You will end up composing a line of BBcode that has an image URL for your thumbnail, and a link to the fullsize image (or a page that image resides on). Note: the server may issue a URL for a thumbnail that is different from where it's stored. Make sure the thumbnail is the only image on screen when you grab the URL.
Image
Image

sample code would look like this:
Code:
[url=http://www.teamswift.net/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][img]http://www.teamswift.net/forum/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/img][/url]

the result would be this (image is a link that can be clicked):

Here's the basis of making a thumbnail: the IMG tags are used to display the thumbnail, the thumbnail is wrapped with URL tags linking to the larger image.

Lets's start with the thumnail itself. As mentioned earlier in the tutorial, there's a glitch in the address the forum software uses to display thumbnails. You MUST right-click on the thumbnail in the gallery page and go to View Image, and then copy the url from the browser's location line. Copy Image URL won't work.

lets's start with a thumbnail image:
Image
http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1

Since it's the thumbnail, and we want to display it as a picture it gets wrapped in IMG tags:
[IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/IMG]

Now we have a static thumbnail. Next we need to add the URL tags to the fullsize image:
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/IMG][/URL]

Here's the results so far:
Image

That's all there is to working thumbnail, but there's only one little issue with it. No one knows it's a thumbnail, I always add some text like "click for full image" so it's obvious that it's more thant just a tiny static image:
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/IMG]
[SIZE=9]click for full image[/SIZE][/URL]

Now the final code does this:
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1]Image
click for full image[/URL]

Note: if you want the caption text to appear under the thumbnail, and not off the side, you need to insert a carriage return after the closing /IMG tag.

Wrong:

[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/IMG]*OOPS! NO CARRIAGE RETURN!!*[SIZE=9]click for full image[/SIZE][/URL]
Imageclick for full image

Right:

[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/IMG]<---PRESS RETURN HERE
[SIZE=9]click for full image[/SIZE][/URL]<--this will appear on a new line

[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1]Image
click for full image[/URL]

Alternately just add another URL line with the caption on it:
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1[/IMG][/URL]<---PRESS RETURN HERE
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1][SIZE=9]click for full image[/SIZE][/URL]

Same result:
Image
click for full image

A quicker way to do this if you have a lot of images is just change the ID number for the images. A unique ID number is given to every image uploaded here. The good news is both the image and it's generated thumbnails share the same ID. So we can paste the thumbnail code, then just change the numbers:
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1000][IMG]http://www.teamswift.net/album_thumbnail.php?pic_id=1000[/IMG][/URL]
[URL=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=1000][SIZE=9]click for full image[/SIZE][/URL]

let's see what we get:
Image
click for full image

To delete a pic from your gallery look and your example pic # 3 (Your Gallery)
you will see under the pic last line EDIT DELETE in light blue.
click on delete on any pic you want to remove from your gallery.
and just follow the instructions.

I have been frustrated with the Gallery since day one. The 'Image BBCode:' form, from a technical design standpoint is absolutely appalling. It should have always been just IMG tags instead of the useless ALBUM. I have searched far and wide, and this post here may of be use to the admins. I really hope that they can edit the phpbb code so that ALBUM will be changed into IMG. This way, we don't need to waste time and right click, copy link location directly to the image, just select the output of 'Image BBCode:' and copy/paste into a new post.

Please take my Kaizen suggestion into account.

Huh? :huh:

Lets see how this works...

So you don't clutter a thread up with oversized images...

image_id: 15276

Goes to: Where you can post the important details, for easy referencing, and you see a larger version of the image.

gallery/image_page.php?album_id=655&image_id=15276

Which then leads to: Which is the original picture all by itself.

Image

You can use either of the stages, posting a direct picture just uses the Img button which inserts the [img ] [/img ] tags around the picture link.

=)

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here but it seems like most of these links and things are broken at this point and I keep seeing people who have difficulty posting photos. So here are my two cents in case anyone finds it useful.

These instructions are based on the use of photo bucket.
Assuming you can or already have a photo bucket account and can access it the following instructions should work, if you don't have an account they are free and easy to create.

1.) Log into your account.
2.) Click on the photo library link on the homepage: Red arrow in the following photo.
Image
3.) This will bring you to the photo "bucket" where you can see a tile view of all your photos. Click on the photo you want to use. The red arrow just points to an example in this photo.
Image
4.) Now you should be looking at a large photo view of the picture you want to use.

Ignore this part unless you have trouble:
I had some trouble with it loading for some reason and had to click the little picture arrow to the side and then back to get it to load. Hopefully you won't have this trouble or if you do I can help you with it if my explanation made no sense.

Here you will see something like this:
Image
In which once again you guessed it you will want to click where the red arrow is pointing on direct under links to share this photo. This should copy the link to your clipboard so you can paste it into your teamswift post. [CLICKING THE IMG LINK WILL COPY THE LINK WITH THE IMG TAGS AND YOU CAN SKIP TO PASTING IN YOUR POST ON TEAMSWIFT]

5.) Now you are ready to post go to teamswift and create a new post or comment and click the Img button above the post box.
Image

Clicking that button should place this Image in your text area. Put your cursor in between the two inside brackets that are facing like ][ and paste the link you copied from photo bucket in-between them. Now you should be able to click the preview button at the bottom of the post and double check to make sure the picture worked correctly.

The link you paste should look something like this http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad20 ... 3ca9a7.png

the last three letters may be .jpg or .gif or .png it doesn't matter the main part is that it should only be a url it should be of the format
http://somethinghere.extension where extension is .jpg or .gif or .png. If it is something really long and nasty you did it wrong. The direct link should just be short and sweet the other links will not work. It should look something like this:

Sorry for all the little steps just wanted to be extra clear. But to sum it up simply all you need to do is:

1.) Upload all your photos to photo bucket.
2.) Go and find the picture you want.
3.) Click the direct link button.
4.) Paste the link copied between the img symbols that are created in the post box when you click the img button on the teamswift forum.
5.) Enjoy your newly illustrated posts. :D

Hope this helps someone. Feel free to ask me to edit it if it was unclear or I can remove it, if it is unwanted.

Cheers!

Make sure your file is in one of the more common formats for displaying images on the internet. If the file extension is .GIF, .JPG, or .PNG, you should be fine.

When this forum was started more than 15 years ago, there weren't many image hosting sites online. Now there's tonnes of them. If the gallery on this forum isn't working right, you can always host the image elsewhere, and link to it in your post. Sites like imgshack will even format the URL with the appropriate BBcode tags, so all you have to do is paste it into your post.

I would really recommend learning how to do some very basic image processing like cropping, saving to a lower resolution, and converting to a different filetype. It will really increase the possibilities of how you present information online. If you sell stuff online, the better your pictures, the more interest you'll get for your products.
