 Post subject: you want fuel economy

i got 42 miles to the gallon with 4 adults in my 92 geo metro 2 door automatic freeway driving 1.0 liter motor no spare tire doing 65 mph i have done a few things to get that mileage.

With 15's, my 93 used to knock out 38 consistently, on the highway doing 80mph. I got passed by semi's uphill in Utah @ 20mph in second gear, floored. Arizona brought overheating, which I resolved by pulling out the fenderwell airbox stuff. Over 5000 miles in 11 days, baby......

I used to get 40 all the time. 46 when I bought it, stock.....

What's your secret? Geo leanburn?

okay here you go this is what i have done to my geo i have a jacobs electronic racing ignition box in there and the k&n filter along with bosch platinum 2 prong plugs and no cat that work for you guys and my timing is advance 13 deg with no spark knock can go farther if i wanted and it starts quick letting me know that i have it set right the faster it starts up the better the fuel economy.

For freeway driving, you may want to consider some aero mods to reduce wind resistance.

It's not stunning for a 1L engine, but not bad. Pretty stock I think. Johnny is right. Get some more outa that by doing aerodynamic mods.

I removed the radio and the antenna of my radio. Put a piece of tape over the hole. Wonder how much that saves me? :)

Try shimming the head as much as you can , depending on what grade of fuel you have available. High comp ratio gives more torque and low consumption ( the engine is more efficient)

I have a 97 swift bought 3yrs ago for 500.00 It had a 1.3 , I took that out and installed a 1.0 from a 96 metro, installed a econo cam and 10 advanced sprocket from suprf1y. used the tranny from the 1.3. Current mileage is about 52mpg daily driving and 60+ highway driving around 55mph.

We just returned from a 6,000 mile trip to Central Mexico.

MPG in the 53 to 55 range for the whole trip. Just amazing to be able to run 500+ miles on a tank

No problems at all with the car except we lost one of the moon hub caps on a bumpy road in Sinola.....new one on the way today.

Highest road temp seen 115F.

Full grill block in place with 6" wide under scoop fitted for this trip in anticipation of the temps.

Many Metro's still in use in Mexico but not tricked out like what we saw in Greece last year.

My new-to-me '99 1.0 with 95,000 miles just got 44.2mpg on a tank full running down to KC and back; fresh non-synth oil and new gearbox Pennzoil, fresh wax and polished bumper covers - and thats with 175/60 Radial-X Michelin's inflated only to 31psi to help cushion the worn out suspension slams.

I certainly did not practice much hyper-mile things since I am still in 5.4 liter F-150 mode, that and the crosswinds and headwinds making the north bound half of the trip like driving a lawn dart with +/- 5 foot steering lines...

Improve a fuel economy than you drive below 60 mph and check tires pressure, change air filter and maintain your car regularly it helps to improve your car mpg and save more money.

I have 2007 swift and it gives me 48 mpg and 50+ mpg on the highway. How do I push the economy to get 55+ mpg mileage in the city? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I've driven both a 1L and 1.3L (non twin-cam) 5 speed (mk2,3,4 and 5) over long distances and was between 47 and 50 MPG (Imperial not US gallons. 3.75L opposed to 4.55L per gallon) with all of them. The difference was negligible. I was not being kind to the cars either averaging between 62 and 80 MPH with bursts up to 90+MPH when I had fairly straight stretches over 10 miles long.This is over more than 8 hours of straight driving with an engine that seemed to be in proper stock tuning. A few big hills but none really "overwhelming" for a low HP econo box. Some short spots (less than 15 seconds) under 55MPH.
