Here are the sizes and the cars you'll find them under.

Front:
18mm - 1989-91 SOHC 1.3L Swift
22mm - 1992-94 SOHC 1.3L Swift, 1989-91 GT/GTi
24mm - 1995-01 Swift/Metro, 1992-94 GT/GTi
25.4mm (1") - Addco
27mm - Whiteline

Rear:
15mm - 1989-91 GT/GTi
18mm - 1992-94 GT/GTi, 1995-01 Swift/Metro
20mm - Whiteline
22.2mm (7/8") - Addco

1989-94 Metros have no bars. 1989-94 SOHC 1.3L Swifts have only the front bar. Neither have mounting points for the rear bar on the body, drilling required.

Any mistakes? Any more sizes? I'm assuming all '95+ cars had the same bars. What did the MK2/MK3 Swift sedan have? These sizes are based on cars sold in the US, they may or may not apply to cars sold in other markets.

Anybody know of any other aftermarket choices?

You are correct, the Australian spec sway bars sizes are not accurately reflected in that listing.

So where do the GT(i)'s fit in the front sway bar listing... I have searched through the forums here and get mixed answers. Some people say MK3 GT(i)'s have 22mm front and 18mm rear where other people claim 24mm front and 18 rear. I guess my main question is if the MK3 GT(i)'s front sway bar is 22mm then the 95-01 metro's front bar would be a slight upgrade right? Or is the MK3 GT(i)'s sway bar already 24mm and is the same as a 95-01 metro? Sorry I was getting conflicting info from other threads and thought I should ask this here in the sticky instead of bringing back 1-2 year or more old threads.

i just measured my 94GT (USA)
0.970"
= 24.63800 millimeters =)

and one from a 95 metro is the same
0.970"
= 24.63800 millimeters

and another
.900"
= 22.86 millimeters
must be 1992-94 Swift?

caution: the 95+ metro bar is 1" longer. can be bent?

Why would anybody measure metric parts in inches? :P

my caliper is 20 yrs old and only speaks English units. :D

Sat Apr 18, 2009:
as an experiment, I put the 95 Metro bars on my 91. drove 20 twisty miles. it is more stable.

the lower A arms were predrilled for the end links.

the rear is a good straight up fit and i used 1.5"L 5/16 grade 7 bolts thru a 3/16" thick plate in the trunk.
i had to shift the muffler 1/2" to the outside for pipe clearance.

the front was factory ready for the bar clamps and i centered the bar so each link has the same slight tilt.

some front bar datum:
0.865" bar is 36.75" L
0.955" bar is 37.375" L (94 GT)
0.940" bar is 38" L (1995 Metro used on my 91 Metro)
L is measured outside the bar ends, ignoring the end links.

I was looking at my bars and it might help to flip the end links to the inside of the longer bar. Being longer, the '95+ 24mm bar would be a little softer than the 24mm MK3 GT bar.

i suppose mounting the clamps/rubbers closer together also softens ???

Does anyone have pictures of their Metro rear sway bar mounts? Just wondering as I had never looked at the rear until I received my sway bars from cmaxxer

imagine my dismay when I got the front mounted, and jacked up the rear end of the car to discover....no mounting points!!! and I just purchased another sway bar and mounts for my '94 metro! :O so now I have two bars and bushings I need to install. Just interested in seeing how others have done this same mod if any!

this may take 2 hrs and is really worth it!

you can get some matching nuts & lock washers for the original bolts
or
buy 4 high grade nuts, lock washers and bolts to go thru the mounts.

buy 4 two inch diameter washers or 2 pcs of 1/8" steel -- for the inside surface between the pan and bolts.

select a SHARP drill bit to match the hole in the mt.

raise the car high enough to drill from below.
attach the end links finger tight and the bar centered.
then position the mts 1" inward on the floor pan.
mark the 2 forward holes and drill them from below.
use vicegrip to keep bolt from turning,
assemble everything and drill the 2 rear holes from below.
finish assembly.

Just to add to this, the Convertible Firefly/metro doesn't come with the front sway bar..but the body mounts are there and so are the holes in the A-arms..all you have to do is bolt it on.

As for the rear, there's a hole in the A-arms for the end-links, but just as you say you have to drill the 4 holes in the underbody to fasten the thing,

A pic of how mine tied in(these pictured are from a sport sedan and will be larger that those from a GT). You'll notice that the bushing sleeve will seem to small. Some just use washers to make up the difference but I found it simpler to bend some flat iron from the hardware store to fab new ones. Took two hammers, a drill and about 10 minutes each.

The tie into the A frame in the same spot as the front. Here's a close up of the bushing. Initially I thought I'd need the longer bolts (1.5")but as it turn out no.

You'll need to do something to reinforce the bottom of the spare tire well as its only sheet metal. Some drill through flat iron, I used bushing washers because I'm cheap and lazy. I used the galvinized carrige bolt toward the outside because last time it put them up instead and the bolts ended up compromising my spares sidewall :evil: . Or cut a brace off a GT and weld it on(if I had one it would have been plan A)

POST EDIT: I ended up having to install some spacers (essentially 1/2" aluminum bar stock w/ a couple holes drilled to align with the bolts) to eliminate a slight rubbing issue during compression. Easy fix though :D

Consider some silicone or lithium lube on the bushing before install. Don't know if its the right thing to do but it makes sense to me.

Congrats to incorrigible.
Very nice hammering! I have tried to straighten those clamps. Forklifting cars ruins them. :evil:
the lubricant will help on squeaks and paint removal leading to rust.

I mounted the clamps closer in thru my trailer hitch frame. Therefore the bolt heads dont rub the spare. The bars really help and it is one of the best Metro improvements. :alien:

I have a front bar to sell and i can cut the rear mts off my parts GT for a price. :?

I see you do not have the sprint down would they be the same sizes as the gti swift or just the normal spec swift?

I'm not sure what the Sprint (or Firefly) has. Probably depends if it's a base model or turbo. What does yours have? Open-end wrenches are the easiest way to measure them.

I'll have to check the sizes but I know the front and rear that I pulled of a 4 door sedan (92 swift I think) was noticably larger than the 92 GT bars. I'd just assumed the increased size was to account for the increased forces resulting from the heavier chassis. The increase was quite noticable though.

For the sedan the front is 1" and the rear is 0.75"; so essentially the rear sedan bars are heavier than the front 89-91GT bars.

My 95+ geo has no mounts for a rear bar.I have a suspension techniques rear bar from a civic that I'm going to mount for giggles.

Is this still working out well for you?
I added front an rear bars on my '92 a long time ago but was putting a shopping list together of upgrades and was wondering if I should get a thicker front bar off a 95+ (there's 2 of them at my junkyard).

Tilt isn't excessive?
