Hi guys,

I am wanting to swap my 98 metro to the 1.3 twin cam engine was looking for where would be the best place to find this and what year car I need to take it from. Just not clear on some of the details. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I believe the engine I am looking for is the G13B just not sure what year car it come out of. I know I need the harness and some other misc items.

In the N.A. market the G13B came in 89 to 94 Swift GT's only.

Right, so the engine, computer, harness I am looking for is out of the 89-94 GTI correct?

Yes but there is a slight change between 91 and 92 in the harness. Look for a rust bucket you can buy whole to get everything you need.

I wasn't able to find a complete car found good engine, harness, and ecu but have decided not to do it just don't think its worth it. Going rebuild the single overhead 1.3 that's in it and keep on rollin. Lol. Thanks for the input guys.

Put a 3tech cam in your current 1.3. You will be impressed, I guarantee it, and nearly as fast as a stock gt setup for way less hassle. The engine you have isn't as rev happy as the oler g13b, but with a cam it makes tons of torque still, and will pull hard to 6500 rpm.

I am doing the swap for a 97 Geo Metro LSI. It had a 1.3L 8 valve. For it to work I had to go to a 98 doner car and swap the entire wiring harness, fuel tank, engine, and computer to make it work. I did not want to go back to ODB1 electronic controls. I wanted
late model ODB2 with port injection. I am going to put a twin cam head on the 98 1.3L that comes with 16 valves but is only SOHC.
I have gotten to the point of harness, fuel tank, and engine are in the 97 car now and running. I am getting 40 mpg.
The things that I still need to change out are as follows.
The exhaust from the cat back is only 1.0" diameter. The car flattens out as for horse power about 4,000 rpm. The one inch
exhaust is to small and I will be going to at least 2.0" pipe and muffler all the way back to the tail pipe.
For the GT head/motor to work all of the electronic controls from the 98 must be installed on the GT motor.
Map, tps, temp sensors, air temp sensor evap controls will be easy. they will just be change to the 98 and bolt them in place.
It is the cam sensor and the crank sensor that will take some engineering to get them in place.
The crank sensor and crank sensor gear (which is part of the lower timing belt pulley) will require an oil pump and oil pan change to the 98 1.3L version. They will give you the hole and mounting point for the sensor. The lower crankshaft timing belt pulley should be just a replacement.
As for the cam sensor which I haven't pulled out of the 98 1.3L SOHC 16 valve head yet. Will require some engineering and making of
an adapter to get it to work right. The 98 head has a different housing the the GT engine. The GT engine is wanting a distributor
in place. The 98 just has a cam sensor and internal gear. No distributor.
As soon as I figure this out I will post the fix.

I'm curious to see how you do that. The 16v cam has a star wheel sorta thing for the cam sensor to get its trigger from. Will need to adapt this somehow ont a cam and get perfect alignment so it doesn't throw codes for cam/crank alignment. I sure wonder if there is much power to be gained by the gt head, unless you are planning lots of mods after its working. The obd2 16v ecu won't run the gt that well I don't think, and the rev limiter will be 6500 or so, limiting the power a bit. You also will be lower than stock compression until you swap gt pistons into it. I keep up to stock gt's quite easily with my 16v car with a cam and exhaust only. Swapping gt head only seems like a lot of work for limited gain to me. I think if you're going that route, really best to swap gt harness and ecu in at the same time so it works together and in harmony.

On the same topic I don't have much trouble dispatching stock gtis. I'm still wanting to get a cam in this thing.

Here is the thread for the GT DOHC into a 97 Geo Metro with a 98 wiring harness.
I ran the 98 SOHC 16 valve engine until I finished building the GT DOHC.
