Mk2 recently started burning a ton of coolant, however it is only when rpms are dropping. I thought headgasket, replaced but didn't fix anything. So I suspect a coolant leak inside the turbo.

What are my options for fixing the turbo? Or maybe there is something else I should check. It runs, drives, boosts, accelerates just like it always did, except there is heavy white smoke only when rpms are dropping.

the intake manifold has coolant passages in it. it might be pushing coolant into the engine through a bad intake manifold gasket.

Any tips on getting at the bottom nuts for the intake manifold. I don't want to pull the head again because I'm out of headgaskets

i use a stubby 12mm combination wrench, the 12 point closed side.

i have short, thick forearms and i really have to push like popeye to reach those inner nuts. :blackeye:

another thing i do is that i loosen the bottom nuts first while the upper fasteners hold the flange down. if you loosen the upper hardware first it lets the top of the flange to move away from the manifold which puts a slight bind on the lower hardware set.

by-pass the coolant line to the turbo, then watch to see if there is any smoke.

What do the plugs look like?

You sure it's from coolant and not from burning oil?
