Replaced a brokin timing bekt. Now having valve noise. Sounds like a disel during mediun to hard accelleration. Idle is fine, MPG same, no drivability issues. :?:

hmm.. gti have 18 degree per per cam tooth.. and i was told that at 15 degree valves hit piston.. if stock gti "survive" 1 tooth slip then that's even better!

Remove the belt and check for wobble @ crank pulley. Also see if you have any wobble/play in cam pulley. If you got a lot of play in the crank pulley its either crank pulley bolts or timing key issue. I had a key brake on me awhile back. Not cool.

Tightened the timing belt and put it back together. Went to double check the timming, pulled the vacuum lines off the distributor, found the screw that holds the vacume can to the dizzy missing. Guess that little screw kinda important. Set at 6deg btdc , locked her down, no noise! Thanks all for the help.

Run it up to 10-14 for better performance. You shouldn't experience any ping at those numbers
