My 97 Geo Metro uses an 1156 backup light bulb.
There are many different LED light bulbs available from
which I can choose from. I want brighter backup lights.
Which ones are you using ? Would you buy them again?
Which ones would you buy?

I was running these in my Honda for the last year or so. The only problem I have with them is the ring that holds the lens in place fell off inside of my taillight.

In my geo I had some crappy led fog lights laying around that I pulled the led chip out of and glued them into a hole in the back of the reverse light reflector.

Is Cree a name brand or a technology?
How much brighter are they?
Did you find the injector ends?

cree is a brand name.
I removed my geo center filler panel between the taillights, cut out a oval hole for a grommet mount led light. also mounted 4- 16 inch 1/8 wide led strips above the taillights, one set is white, other set is red. red ones hooked up to signals.my filler panel was damaged, so no tears there if I wrecked it.
finding led light bulbs that work/ fit properly is hit and miss. I have tried some that are stupid bright, but they would not fit, or the beam spread was horrible.
its the optics of the lens that you pay for, not so much the led itself.
I have these on the front of my car

looks like a lot of light, but the optics on the lightbars aren't the greatest. ebay Chinese knock-offs of name brand lightbars.

I have since installed composite headlights.

When I went to the 98 wiring harness in the 97(for the sequential fuel injection) I ended up with the
front turn signals getting moved up to the corners of the headlamps. This has left me with two open
holes where the old turn signals used to be. The holes are 2" X4" and I have not been able to find
fog light that small locally. For now I have black window screen over the holes, but I want to
fill the holes with fog lamps. I want the fog lamps to be bright beams, not just bright lights.
What you did to yours looks good but you say the lamps are not that bright?
I do like the 98 headlamps much better then the 97 headlamps.

the light bars light up the area below the highbeam light spread, and in the ditches nicely. but no ''spot-highbeam'' light advantage to them. I have some 4'' round ''pencil'' or ''spot beam'' led that I was debating about putting on the car as well- they have long distance, narrow light beam.
I have noticed the ''blazer'' company offers a wide array of led lights- have used them on shop equipment with good results.
its really hard to tell what the beam looks like unless they are mounted....I have seen 4 inch double row bars, but that's the just lens measurement, the outside dimensions are a lot larger (all aluminum housings to dissipate heat) seen some flood beam, pencil/spot beam, or combo of both flood/spot beam.
keep looking. try heavy truck parts places. they usually cater to the big rig guys that really need more light!!

i used a row of cree 4 watt eagle eye leds across the rear bumper, 2 22 led strobe panels behind the factory backup light lenses that strobe alternately in backup mode, and an f1 racer style hyper flashing red led array.
Image

when I turn on my fog lights the rear strobes flash together and the f1 style red array flashes in slow mode.

the multiple cree eagle eye leds light up the area behind the car like daylight.

I went with your suggestion on the cree backup lights. I am pleased with the end results.
Much brighter backup lights that let me see much more then the stock lights.
Of all places, I went to Walmart and found Halogen fog lamps the right size to fit in
the openings on the front bumper skin for less then $20 a pair. The mounting brackets
that come with the lamps allow for left/right and up/down adjustments. I would have
preferred LED's, but I will try the halogens and see if they do what I want. For less then
$20 if I don't like them I can toss them. Pictures to follow, it is still to cold here to work
on the car.

you might be able to find led bulbs to replace the halogen bulbs. should be h3 halogen bulbs? only problem I have had when installing led bulbs into halogen housings- the led is too big, or the led is bright, but poor beam spread/ distance. its all trial and error.
putco makes a great led light, but damn expensive.
