I have a gas tank from a 89 Gti that I want to put in my 97 metro (I will be changing the fuel pump if it fits) but I wanna know if they are comparable before going and doing all the work to find out it's different. My mk4 gas tank leaks 3/4 of the tank and I am going on a road trip this weekend

The Mk 4/5 tank has a separate fuel pump and gage sender. No external fuel filter either.

Are you sure it's the tank leaking and not a hose or filler neck?

They are way different. The 97 tank has a hole bunch of emissions control parts mounted on the top of it to.

I was very close to swapping a 01 tank into a 93 metro but that project went down the toilet before I got that far.
