I have a friend with all the tools to do the job who has successfully done front brake jobs before. and I've watched the videos on UTube so I think I know what I'm in for, although I've never done it before.

My question(s) is this:
1. Are there Rotors and Pads you guys recommend?
2. Are there Rotors and Pads I should avoid? (certain manufacturers?)
3. Are the one's from Auto Zone good enough?
4. Since I'm saving almost $250 doing it myself is it worth it to upgrade to something a little more expensive than standard Auto Zone parts? ($60)
5. Is it worth it to spend almost ($85) for Perforated Rotors?
6. What kind of Pads should I get?...(Organic? Inorganic? Ceramic? - there are several different types to choose from)

What vehicle is this going on? The pads you go with really depends on your driving behavior and what your using the car for. I tend to personally stay away from semi-metallics.

Are you planning on pushing the pistons back in with C clamps for the front, or are you going to bleed the whole system? The additional hardware is always a good idea to replace also. This would include the caliper guide pins and boot (caliper bushings) that go around them. At least make sure they are lub ed properly.

Thanks for the additional suggestion of the "Pins" and the "sleeves"...will do!! :lol:

I was planning on the "C-Clamp" technique...Is that ill advised?
Any tips on preventing piston damage utilizing this technique?

Any other suggestions???

when using the c-clamp to push the caliper pistons back i always use a turkey baster to suck brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir first to prevent an overflow from damaging the paint on the firewall under the master cylinder.

i evacuate the reservoir a second time after pushing the pistons back as well just to remove as much of the old brake fluid as possible.

after the new brake components are installed i refill the reservoir, bleed the brakes, and finally, top off the reservoir to the full line. :wink:
