Users beware, new Photobucket policy to be in place.
We are about to lose years of work, myself included as Photobucket is changing up their method of operation
for hosting on 3rd party websites.
This is particularly aggravating for me as I've spent countless hours redoing all the pics in my posts over the
years to link photobucket to replace the pics lost that were hosted on TeamSwift when TS went through
the various stages of progression, many of us lost the pictures uploaded on TS. I had repaired all lost
pics with Photobucket hosted links, which at the time was free hosting.
Now it appears Photobucket will not offer 3rd party hosting at the end of this year unless you upgrade
to the $39.95 per month plan, or annually @ $399.
Sad news. I welcome any thoughts or alternatives, though in the back of my mind, I knew something
like this was bound to eventually happen. And I may not have all the details exactly right as I was just
made aware of this, but basically this is the jist of it.

No need to panic about losing your pictures.

Photobucket said you can login and download your albums in one step if you choose to not upgrade and switch to another image hosting service.

It is true that you will need to redo all your IMG references in your posts if you decide to switch to another image host. That's a drag.

I use Wix and geometroforum.com for image hosting

Fortunately I recently upgraded to the ad free version for all of $2 (maybe it was $10 or $20,
I don't recall, but I know it was super cheap) so I guess I'm good for the short term,
as well as my several hundred eBay listings using PB as well, because my PB account was
already set up and in 'good standing'.
But seriously, way to go Photobucket, you've broken the internet.
$400 bucks a year for 3rd party hosting is BS, I think a lot of people may have been ok
with like $99. The alternative to fixing what could be a decade of links for most who care,
is absurd. This is not the only forum I've made my home at over the years, I assume
for most that the millions of hosted photo's will indeed remain dead for the long term.
If I wish to continue my 'Legacy' for the enjoyment of others while I'm still living,
I will have to pony up some dough or gradually start moving to an alternative host.
But if PB couldn't make it on the money from advertising, certainly the alternative
provider wouldn't succeed as well. Maybe they'll reconsider and offer a service
for a price that's easier to swallow, but if not, at least if I decide to upgrade to the
premium 500, I can claim it as a work expense.
