i was just thinking the other day if i was to run cultus injectors and fuel rail plus cultus intake manifold but still retain standard air flow meter and ECU what problems or advantages would this produce for the engine in running or idle or tunning purposes. any ideas or info is most appreciated.

i can tell you that the cultus intake is a great peice, definite hp gains there. as for the cultus injectors and fuel rail, i don't think that there is going to be any gain there. stock injectors are good enough for any N/A mod you can throw at them. if your going boost, i believe they flow a little more than the stockers, so they might help you there. With or without the chip there shouldn't be any problems with these pieces. obviously the chip is going to give better performance, for $50.00 its probably the best bang for the buck. so if i were you i would definitely get the cultus intake and a chip (i have the rally chip and love it!), instead of the fuel rail and injectors. if you wanna spend money on injectors get them professionally sonic and reverse flow cleaned. someone might disagree buts thats my opinion...

The cultus injectors I flow tested at my old shop flowed the same as stock GTi injectors.

The Cultus injectors actually look identical to newer MK3 injectors I've seen.

does a chip help that much with an cultus manifold installed and what exactly does it do like retard or advance timing and what else?

the chip will remap your timing and fuel. i noticed a significant difference when i put it in my car. it was stock at the time...when i added the cultus intake the car felt even better. do a search, the chips have been discussed quite a bit.

but would the standard ecu have any problem adjusting the air/fuel ratio with the cultus injectors and standard AFM being used?

the afm's are all the same (cultus, gti, gt) so you don't have to worry about that piece. your standard ecu with a modified chip will not have any problems with cultus injectors. actually, i've seen a cultus setup (cams, injectors, intake manifold, header etc.) on a standard chipped ecu with absolutely no problems. the chip with the cultus injectors alone will most likely run a little rich.

Your car will run just fine with stock ECU. As for the AFM, I ran 4 different numbered ones on my MK1 with no discernable difference n the signal that they sent or the running of my car. Mind you, it runs better now with no AFM... :)
