Anyone can advise me the difference in Cultus ECU and our stock MK3 ECU and it performance ?

My current ECU is with Teamswift Rally Chip and how would be the performance if I have the chip on a cultus ECU ?

Thks !!!

If you fit that chip to the Cultus ECU, you will have just the same performance as you have now.

As for Cultus ECU vs. stock ECU - it has more ignition timing and extra fuelling, especially at the top end. On Mk1's, it is just a different fuel curve since the Mk1 ECU does not control ignition timing.

Would a performance of a stock Cultus ECU be better than using Chip ?

I doubt it... chip would be better from what Oz has said... Stock cultus ECU is better than std mk2/3 ECU's slightly and then chip fitted to either is better again as long as it is made for the mods you have to your car.... correct Oz?

Cos I have a morning start problem after installing the Rally chip, needs to step on accelarator to warm up. If release the accelarator, idling will fall and engine will go died.

But I must agree that performance wise the chip do really make a difference.

However when using my stock ECU in the past, I dun have this problem. Any idea what could have happen ?

For your info, this happen even when I was using the chip with my stock cams though currently I'm using the GTi performance cams from Suprfly and it still happen.

Swap the chip back to stock if it is the real problem, and the problem's gone, right? I doubt it's the chip, if it is that easy just do it for your car's longevity. Otherwise I would look at the IAC and fast idle valve. Check all your hoses and poke around. Maybe someone has a specific way to help?
Perhaps this will help: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroke ... deYMMEYear
There's a Troubleshooting section as well.

Actually the rally/performance chip was based on the Cultus motor and then it was re-mapped for better performance. It won't make a ton more power over the Cultus ECU but it will make it more responsive ove the power band.

Don't forget that the Cultus ECUs expect a knock sensor input as well... or at least the Mk2/3 version does.

He was asking if he fitted the modified chip he has to the Cultus ECU, instead of the ECU he has, would it go any better....no it wouldn't, it would be the same as what he has now....

And you can't copy the Mk1 chip and use it in a Mk3 ECU...it has no ignition mapping at all.

Hi Adam,

I'm back in office, didn't receive your mail.

Or maybe you also email me at stirace@yahoo.com.sg

Of course....and would work at its best, if the chip was written specifically for any mods you have, rather than just overfuelling your engine where you may not need it. Perhaps the basic Mk1 Cultus chip would be something close to whatever you have. At least you don't have to worry about over-aggressive timing being added on a Mk1 chip.

Sort of hijacking this thread, but it has been inactive for a while.........

I have a Cultus GT-i with an ECU labelled F6.
Does anyone else have this ECU in their car and can verify that it has an input for a knock sensor?
I also have a Swift Gti with a F5 ECU, which seems kinda weird as most of the threads I have read on this topic seem to indicate most have F3's.
Your inputs greatly appreciated.............
Jon
