I searched through the forums, but couldn't find anything. Where do the dots on the cam gears point to when the motor is on #1 TDC? I have them faced together pointing into the middle of the block. Is this correct? Anyone have a pic?

Thanks guys

Which engine do you have?

On an 8v SOHC engine the timing marks are lined up facing straight upwards - there is a arrow mark on the oil pump to line up the crank pulley and a notch on the inner belt cover to line up the cam shaft pulley.

Basically you don't set the piston to TDC .. There is a timing mark on the crank pulley (a little dot) that lines up with an arrow on the oil pump. Then on the intake cam line the dot with an I beside it with a line (raised notch) on the valve cover (should be straight up) and do the same with the exhaust cam but use the dot with the E and there will also be a seperate mark on the valve cover for the exhaust cam.. When all three of these marks are lined up your timing is perfect. There is no need to search for TDC...

When you line the dot on the crank with the arrow on the pump you are at TDC on #1 & #4
