hi, merry christmas

iam writing in this forum as a means of last resort.
a few weeks ago i decided to give my swift a good overhaul, and found the ignition timing way out of wack, and the timing belt just about rotten. having taken this off, my brother comes along and decides that something doesnt match up, and so turns the cams. for weeks now i have been trying to find on the internet a way, or preset of the camshaft timings. i even bought the chilton (haynes) manual that covers swift (3cyl, sohc, dohc) and chev sprint and metro, the manual that was posted about in this forum not too long back. needless to say i found it pretty much useless considering it doesnt cover any kind of timing, as it isnt like the standart haynes/gregorys repair manuals. i ask you if anyone has a picture or some kind of description of how the (E) and (I) on the cam gears are suppose to line up with the crankshaft.

any help, hints, or criticism etc. if greatly appreciated

thank you in advance

daniel

If I remember correctly, the E (for exhaust) on the cam sprocket closest to the front lines up with the timing mark on the cam cover, and the I (for intake) on the cam sprocket closest to the back lines up with it's timing mark.
