I've heard that there's a Geo Metro tranny that will work on the GTi with a lower final drive ratio. What years was this available, and with what engine? Also, is this the same as the base sohc Suzuki Swift? How about Pontiac Firefly/Chevy Sprint? I may swap mine for one of these if I can find out what will work, and which one has the lower ratio. Also, does anyone have experience with these trannies in the GTi, especially with mods, how durable are they compared to the stock tranny?

The lower final can be found in the 1995-2000 new body style 3cyl. Metro.

a lower final drive will be in there but the gear ratios will be different, i think you should try ad get the final drive and put in your gti tranny, gti ratios rule!

all the swifts/metro/firefly have the same ratios.
Only the final gearing changes, and the toughness of the differential.
Gt/gti diff are about twice the size of the others

yeah i was on a rant... i should stop posting...

i haven't found a difference in the internals in the trannies. as being very very scepitle of anyone else i figure everything for my self...
like a year ago when i joined. i asked lots of questions no one could tell me they did it. they just "heard" of someone who did...
so it was a year ago i installed my 60tb and the 56mm MAF and the thing goes crazy. first installed the TB and noticed not much improvement cause u still have the 45mm bottle neck but once a mod'd 56mm MAF was installed the gains were well worth it.
